The Helias Lady Crusader volleyball teams traveled to Washington on Thursday, Oct. 12 to play St. Francis Borgia. The freshmen started things off by defeating the Lady Knights 24,26, 25-11, 25-16. Abby Block had 24 assists and 16 service points, Abby Farrow had 9 service points, 8 digs and 7 kills, MaKenzi Meyer had 4 kills and 4 blocks, Morgan Rundle had 12 digs and 6 kills, Leslie Ortmeyer added 5 kills and 2 blocks and Hannah Warren contributed 11 digs. The freshmen record improved to 18-0. The jv record fell to 23-4-3 with a 20-25, 18-25 loss. Samantha Bruemmer and Lindsey Griggs had 10 assists each, Erica Haslag and Bruemmer had 6 kills each, Griggs, Tory Wiley and Laura Schieber had 3 kills apiece. Alex Trower added 9 digs.

The varsity lost a tough match 19-25, 23-25. The Lady Crusaders were ahead in the first set 9-7 when the Lady Knights went on a 6-0 run and Helias never recovered. The second set was tightly contested until Helias pulled out to a 21-17 lead behind the serving of Tess Wiley. The Lady Crusaders could not force a third set as Borgia went on a 8-2 run to win the second set. Wiley had 6 service points and 5 kills, Krista Haslag had 8 kills and 3 blocks, Eli Sandbothe added 5 service points, 3 kills and 2 blocks, Sidney Lammers had 16 assists and 8 digs and Haley Bax added 8 digs and 3 service points. The varsity record dropped to 20-4-2.

All three teams travel to Camdenton on Monday, Oct. 17. The jv and freshmen matches will be played at 5 pm with the varsity match to follow.
