The Helias jv and varsity volleyball teams swept the Eldon Lady Mustangs on Monday, Oct. 10. The jv won their match 25-7, 25-14. Tory Wiley had 7 service points and 3 kills, Samantha Bruemmer had 9 service points and 3 assists, Jordyn West added 6 service points and 3 digs, Lindsey Griggs chipped in with 6 assists and Tori Keller had 4 digs. The jv record improved to 23-4-3.

The varsity team started slowly by committing several unforced errors early including 3 missed serves, 1 net violation, 5 hitting errors and a passing error which helped Eldon build a 14-10 lead in the first set. After a timeout, the Lady Crusaders only committed 5 errors the rest of the match. They outscored Eldon 15-6 after the timeout to take the first set 25-20. After the timeout, Helias did not allow a single Eldon point off serve the remainder of the match. The Lady Crusaders slowly built their lead in the second set before winning 25-10. The Lady Crusaders only hit .185 in the first set but hit .577 in the second set with 16 kills and only 1 error. Helias serve receive passing was 2.05 in the first set and 2.60 in the second set. After the 14-10 lead by Eldon in the first set, Helias got 6 sideouts in a row off Eldon's first serve to close out the first set and they were 11 out of 11 in the second set as Eldon did not get a single point off their serve. On a night when the seniors (Krista Haslag, Nicole Lamb, Elizabeth Sandbothe, Rachel Werner and Tess Wiley) were honored, the senior hitters put on a show. Tess Wiley (.429) and Eli Sandbothe (.545) had 8 kills each while Krista Haslag (.625) added 5 kills. Sandbothe also had 3 blocks while Haslag had 2 blocks. Sidney Lammers contributed 12 assists, 8 service points, 6 digs and 3 blocks, Brittney Engelbrecht added 9 assists, 5 service points and 4 digs and Wiley also had 6 service points. The varsity record now stands at 20-3-2.

The freshmen, jv and varsity travel to Washington on Wednesday, Oct. 12 to play St. Francis Borgia. The freshmen and jv matches will be played at 5:30 pm.
